CASPer questions consist of written or video prompts or scenarios, and then you are typically asked about your thoughts on the case, how you might resolve the situation, or even how your perspective would change if one of the variables was different.
Is CASPer a hard test?
The questions on CASPer® are objectively difficult – so you will be challenged. You may find that you read through a question and do not know what to write, which can lead to anxiety. Writer’s block happens.
What is a good CASPer test score?
The grading of CASPer responses is done using a numerical Likert-style scale. The scale runs from 1 to 9 with 1 signifying a “unsatisfactory” response and 9 signifying a “superb” or superior one.
Do I need to study for the CASPer test?
CASPer is not your traditional test, it’s not a test that requires memorization, in fact, memorizing anything isn’t going to help you on this test. You also can’t “study” for it. Instead, CASPer is assessing behavior, such as personal and professional characteristics.

The CASPer test is proctored. According to Altus Assessments Inc., they “may request / randomly access your webcam and/or microphone during the account creation, registration, and test process to collect information to verify your identity and proctor the test.”

Can you fail CASPer?
The CASPer test is not a pass or fail test. It measures your personal skills in relation to the entire applicant pool. It is up to the individual programs to determine how they will incorporate the CASPer score into their application decisions, meaning every school may use the scores differently.
Does CASPer score matter?
There’s very little research on CASPer, and there’s no evidence that CASPer is effective at identifying people more likely to succeed in medical school. Of the research that does exist, they only correlate CASPer scores with secondary endpoints or simulated outcomes: not actual medical school admissions outcomes.

Specifically, this means that they scored higher than at least 25% of all applicants, but lower than at least 50% of all applicants. Remember that quartiles represent what percentage of other applicants you scored higher than, not what percentage of questions you got right or wrong.
How long is CASPer test valid for?
The CASPer must be taken each year. The exam is only good for one match cycle (e.g. it is valid for both first and second iteration of an R-1 match), as per the exam center (Altus assessments) policy.
