MiniClover (Trifolium repens) is rebadged common white clover – it’s listed on the analysis tag. MicroClover (Trifolium repens L. var. Pirouette) is a cultivar of white clover that’s the smallest in the world and is patented.
Is white clover the same as micro clover?
Microclover refers to smaller varieties of white clover (Trifolium repens var. ‘Pirouette’ and ‘Pipolina’). These types have smaller leaves, fewer flowers, and a lower growth habit compared to Dutch white clover. They also have a less aggressive clump-forming habit.
Where does micro clover grow best?
Micro-clover grows very well in sun and partial shade. It is not a good choice for shade (nor are turf grasses, for that matter). Micro-clover resists weeds better than grasses and even tends to outcompete them. Unlike grass turf, micro-clover is highly resistant to dog urine and de-icing salts.
Is Microclover invasive?
Micro clover in naturally invasive which means that wherever stems touch the ground, the plant is going to take root. It’s a good thing if you have a lawn that has a lot of bare patches. However, clover can also spread into gardens and other places you may not want it to take hold on.

Do you have to mow Microclover?
A microclover-grass lawn should be mowed to about 3 to 3.5 inches (8 to 9 cm.) and no shorter. Be aware that microclover will produce flowers in the spring and summer. If you don’t like the look of it, a mowing will remove the flowers.

It turns out that it’s impervious to dogs, dog urine and foot traffic, and requires minimal maintenance and chemical treatment. Micro Clover does flower – most in it’s second year – but it flowers 90% less than regular “Dutch” white clover.

One benefit to a Microclover lawn, is that you don’t have to fertilize it. However, if you prefer to have more grass than Clover, we recommend fertilizing in the Spring and Fall to deter the Clover from becoming too well established.
