Born in Zimbabwe, Tavona had his university education at the National University of Science & Technology, Zimbabwe where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in accounting and at University of Cape town where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Tavona is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK. He has also held various industry positions, including President of the Life and Pensions Association and the Actuarial Society in Malawi (2017-18). Tavona has been a part of the Old Mutual family for over twelve (12) years. In this period, he has held various roles working in the Zimbabwean, South African and Malawian markets. He started off in Zimbabwe as a manager in the actuarial department and was then seconded to Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (South Africa) for three years as a Senior Actuarial Specialist in recognition of the need to further develop his skills. He later returned to Zimbabwe to assume the role of Operations Executive where he led business transformation on a number of projects. The above notable achievements and his drive for excellence led to his appointment as Managing Director of both Old Mutual Life Assurance Company and Old Mutual Pension Services Company (Malawi) where he helped to position Old Mutual as the leading life insurer in Malawi. He is described by many as an accomplished business leader with a track record of growing and turning around businesses across the African Continent. Tavona is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (Ghana). Tavona is known and recognized for the values he believes in - Integrity, objectivity, professionalism and creativity.
